It’s once again that time of year: Princess Kate is decking the halls of Westminster Abbey for her annual Christmas carol service.
Ahead of this year’s event, which will take place December 8, Kensington Palace released a never-before-seen portrait of the Princess of Wales decorating a Christmas tree. The shot appears to come from the same promotional video the palace released last year of Kate adding ornaments to a lit-up tree. In the photo, the princess smiles widely and wears a patterned white knit turtleneck tucked into a pair of high-rise black trousers.
The Holland Cooper Fair Isle sweater—which the royal frequently wears during the colder months—is a chic take on the seasonal “ugly Christmas sweater” trend. It features ribbed detailing along the collar, shiny gold buttons adorning the shoulders and sleeve cuffs, and the traditional Fair Isle knitting pattern in dark blue and maroon.

Princess Catherine hosted her first holiday service in 2021 to honor essential workers for their service during the pandemic. This year—her third time hosting the event at Westminster Abbey—will focus on a cause close to her heart: early childhood development.
Continuing the work of her Shaping Us campaign, Kate will invite “inspiring individuals and families from all corners of the U.K., including midwives, health visitors, early years practitioners, nursery teachers, and community volunteers,” according to a palace press release. We can also expect other members of the royal family to attend. (Kate and Prince William’s kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, made an appearance last year!)
Though the event will take place in early December, it will not air on ITV until December 24.
